ATLANTA -- A federal appeals court has dismissed a lawsuit filed on behalf of a 5-year-old boy who was molested by a teenager at a Cherokee County home where he was placed by state social workers.

The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on Friday dismisses the complaint filed on behalf of "John Doe," whose mother filed the suit after learning that her son had been sexually abused by the teen.

A federal judge in 2010 allowed the case to proceed to trial. But the three-judge panel's decision Friday reversed that ruling and found that the social workers should have immunity from the legal complaint.
