Rockmart Little League will officially kick off its season on Saturday with Opening Day ceremonies, games, and a parade.

According to president Lee Hayes, the parade will start at 10 a.m. at the old Rockmart High School. New York Giants football player D.J. Ware, a Rockmart High graduate, will be the grand marshal for the parade and will throw out the first pitch.

Ware, who played in the Super Bowl in February when the Giants won the Lombardi Trophy, played his prep football as a Yellow Jacket before spending time in Athens playing for the University of Georgia. Ware now plays running back for the Giants professional football team.

Opening ceremonies will get under way at 11 a.m., Hayes noted, and games will start at 12:30 p.m.

“We’re expecting a good year,” Hayes said. “We’ve done a lot of hard work. The board I have has done a great job, and the city of Rockmart has, too.”

Games will be played in five age groups, ranging from 3-years-old to 12-years-old.

I think y'all forgot a few people when this article was written. That would be "THE ENTIRE GIRL'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE". Believe it or not, we had over 200 girls playing this year, who were in the same parade as the Little League, held opening ceremonies, and played games all day in the hot sun, just like the Little League did. Another Rockmart great - Anna York - threw out the first pitch. So where's the article for the girls?
