ATLANTA -- The Senate is expected to vote on the amended budget for fiscal year 2012.

The amended budget cleared the Appropriations Committee earlier this week with little fanfare. Appropriations Chairman Jack Hill says the $18.5 billion budget is only slightly higher than the original budget for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

Hill says the Senate version differs little from the House proposal, which has already been approved by that chamber. It takes into account increases in enrollment in state pre-k and the employees' health benefit plan.
