According to reports, Polk County Police Department asked Rockmart officers to respond to a burglary reported in progress at Petro Mart in Taylorsville.
Reports state 911 gave a description of the suspects and vehicle, a yellow Mustang, to the Rockmart officers.
One officer, Officer Leslie Coppock, passed the 1995 Ford Mustang and stated the car appeared to be on the wrong side of the road, turning into a dirt and wooded area near Eastview Road.
Reports state Coppock went back into the area, began searching with a spotlight and saw someone emerge from the wooded area.
Coppock said a gun was drawn for safety because no one else was on the scene at the time.
The man, identified as Gonzales, surrendered while another man came up through the woods. That man, Matthew Nixon, was told to put his hands up and also surrendered.
Another officer arrived to assist and both were detained for the Polk County Police Department.
The PCPD took them into custody.
Reports stated officers had been told a third person was involved but that person could not be found.
The original witness, who had driven by Petro’s and reported the burglary, positively identified Gonzalez and Nixon, reports said.
