Over one hundred freedom marchers met at the intersection of Thompson and Rock Streets and marched down Cedartown's Main Street passing the No. 2 Court house during the Seventh Annual MLK March on their way to the Cedartown Civic Center.

The march was just one of several events going on throughout the day Jan. 16, in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Saturday, Jan. 14, at 9 a.m. there was a prayer breakfast held at Zion Habitation of Praise, 972 Prior Station Road for the youth. The children performed "Dr. King had a Dream" from the "Lil' People's World." The children also participated in other events and singing songs such as: "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and "We are the World."

After the breakfast and prayer service was over, the youth were presented with medallions and awarded gifts for academic excellence and sportsmanship from the MLK Organization and The Virtuous Women.

On Sunday Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. The first annual Virtuous Women's Awards Banquet was held in the Cedar Hill Senior Living Community Ballroom. The guest speaker was Apostle Trisha Morgan.

There were 68 awards given and 88 volunteers with the MLK Virtuous Women Sorority as of Jan. 15, 2012.

On Monday, Jan. 16, the annual prayer breakfast was held in the Cedar Hill Senior Living Communities ball room. The annual prayer walk was held at 4 p.m. and the celebration and awards presentation was held at 6 p.m. in the Cedartown Civic Center with State Representative Rick Crawford as the keynote speaker.
