SAVANNAH, Ga. -- A Savannah woman is facing charges that she duped Rock 'n' Roll Marathon runners out of more than $8,000.

The Savannah Morning News reports that Amanda Whitford was arrested Monday and charged with felony theft after 18 people reported giving her $8,296 in deposits to rent a house on her block that she advertised on the Internet.

Authorities say the 41-year-old told all 18 people they could stay at the cottage between Nov. 4 and Nov. 6.

Then, about two weeks before the event, police say she told them the house had been damaged by water and couldn't be rented. When asked for a refund, police say she refused to give the prospective renters their money back.
