The local squad started the World Series off with a 10-0 thumping over the Thunder in a pool play game. Baylee Wright earned the game ball for Cedartown.
In the Xtreme’s first bracket game, they played and defeated the North Hall Lady Trojans 3-2.
“We had a fight on our hands to the end,” coach Shane Lee said.
Halee Blackmon hit the first home run of the season for the Xtreme. However, it was Lizzie Lee that earned the game ball for this contest. Lee struck out seven batters in three innings as a pitcher.
The Xtreme then played the only other undefeated team in the Georgia Hornets. The Cedartown squad would stroll to an 8-1 win in this contest.
“We started off with good pitching, fielding, and aggressive base running and big hits,” Lee stated.
Laura-Ashlee Tillery hit a home run, and earned the game ball for Cedartown.
“This was probably the best game we had played in a while,” Lee said. “We were nearly perfect in all areas of the game.”
In the championship game, the Xtreme had to face the Georgia Hornets again. This time the Hornets would win in extra innings 8-7.
“We would score two runs in the top of the first extra inning, but they scored three in the bottom of the inning,” Lee said.
That set up another contest between the two teams with the winner taking the title. Unfortunately for the Xtreme, the Hornets would win the next game by a 6-5 score.
“This was a heartbreaker,” Lee said. “We had turned the momentum to us and we were rolling, but we would not have enough time to make a great comeback.”
Halee Blackmon received the game ball for the Xtreme.
“I could not be more proud of this team,” Lee said. “This team went into this tournament with only four practices together.”
Lee also noted that the program he started has been successful.
“I started Xtreme fast-pitch in the fall of 2009 and this program has been very successful,” Lee said. “We have won the 2010 GRPA 10-and-under state championship, we placed third in the 2011 GRPA 12-and-under state championship, we have won back-to-back District five titles, as well as back-to-back Cedartown recreation titles. We have won multiple tournament championships and we have placed in tournaments in NSA and GSA.
“But this may be the best team and coaching staff to wear the Xtreme uniform. I am very excited about this upcoming (spring) season.”
Members of the team are Amber Timms, Laura-Ashlee Tillery, Baylee Wright, Tamara Brown, Makenzy Youngblood, Katrina Harris, Lauren Lindsey, Halee Blackmon, Ally Dodd, Kassidi Ward, Lizzie Lee, and Skylar Rogers.
The coaches were Shane Lee, Tim Brown, Junior Timms, Timmy Little, and Todd Tillery.
“I want to thank the coaches, parents, and grandparents for coming and supporting the Xtreme (Nov. 19) in the cold. We want to make sure our sponsors know how much we appreciate them and their support of us. Without our sponsors we would not have everything that we have.”
