Update: Power was restored to Main Street around 11:20 a.m..

According to city workers, the power outage was actually caused by someone mowing grass near the Cedartown bypass. The large mower apparently struck a junction box. The lawn mower operator escaped injury.

Several blocks of downtown Cedartown are without electrical power, possibly due to ongoing Streetscape construction.

Power was lost abruptly around 10:15 a.m. on the east side of Main Street in the downtown. Power was still out an hour later.

A project is under way in the downtown to replace sidewalks, curbs and gutters, along with other landscaping, as part of a Streetscape improvement project. Works said there were not supposed to be any underground power lines where they were digging Thursday morning, but did not rule out the possibility that a power line was cut.

City personnel and Georgia Power Co. have been contacted about the outage.
