Cedartown’s Krige Schabort has always been a man that can do whatever he sets his mind to doing. Lately, Schabort has been determined to get back in first place.

After easily winning the Cedartown Wheelchair Athlete 5K race last Thursday, Schabort won the men’s wheelchair race at the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta with a time of 19:47. It was the fourth time Schabort has won the race.

While no one else for this area had the results that Schabort had, several racers did represent this area.

215 runners from the Greater Rome area joined over 60,000 others for the annual Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on Monday.

Andrew Fuller, of Rome, topped the list of area runners by placing 58th with a time of 31:59. (Kenya’s Sammy Kitwara took first overall with a 28:05, just two seconds ahead of fellow countrymen Mathew Kisori.)

Jill Horst, age 32 of Rome, who has run the 6.2-mile race almost every year since she was 16, finished 216th overall with a 37:07. She said she was pleased with her effort despite a slower time than last year
