The Cedartown Core baseball team is the 2011 Dizzy Dean District Champions.

The Core team won the 6-and-under tournament held in Cedartown at the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Complex. The three-day event was held last Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Cedartown played five games, winning four. They were competing against teams such as Winston, Carroll County, Bill Arp, and Boundary Waters.

On Saturday, the Core downed Bill Arp 16-9 and Boundary Waters 15-12. The next day, the Core slipped past Winston 21-20. The win put the Core into the championship game, and whomever they played would have to beat them twice.

On Monday, Winston won the first game 25-17 but the Core bounced back to win the next game 21-12 to clinch the championship.

Members of the squad were Eli Barrow, Dylan Cupp, Gus Robert Gammage, Reece Tanner, Brylan McCray, Zak Tillery, Xavier Holiday, Denver Nale, Brenton McGinnis, Drew Kirkpatrick, Cole Dingler, and Matthew Henslee.

The coaches were Wayne Cupp, Gary McGinnis, Carson Tanner, and Darrin Nale.

The Core also wanted to thank Cedartown Recreation Director Johnny Morris and Tom Watson for their efforts in hosting the tournament.
