Sons of Confederate Veterans members hosted a memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedartown's Greenwood Cemetery.

The historic cemetery, located on East Avenue across the street from the Cedartown Municipal Complex, contains several graves of Civil War soliders. Many of the graves are of veterans who survived the war, but some are of soldiers who died during the conflict.

Some of the tombstones include their military rank and other historical information. In some cases, historical markers have been added later.

Cedartown Park and Cemeteries Superintendent Lee Hayes coordinated the city's participation in the event. Area SCV chapters provided re-enactors, who fired muskets and a cannon while in Confederate military uniforms. other volunteers were dressed as mourners in period dress.
