ATLANTA -- The state is asking the Georgia Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling overturning part of the state's charter school law.

Attorney General Sam Olens filed a request Thursday on behalf of Georgia Charter Schools Commission. The state's highest court ruled May 16 that the commission is unconstitutional because it allows the state to approve and fund charter schools over the objection of local school boards.

The court rarely grants such requests and did not issue an immediate decision on the filing.

State lawmakers are considering introducing a constitutional amendment to address the court's ruling.
