The following is a list of events going on in and around Polk County today:

1.The Kiwanis Club of Cedartown meets every Friday at 12:15 p.m. at Cherokee Country Club.

2.The 2011 Chief Ladiga Silver Comet Sk8 Challenge stops in Rockmart at the end of the first leg of the three-day race. Riders are expected to reach Seaborn Jones Park around 2 p.m. The Public is invited to come out and welcome the riders. The Sk8 Challenge is a long distance skateboarding race from Smyrna to Weaver, Ala.

3. Wayland Jackson will release balloons in Peeks Park at 4:30 p.m. in memory of his daughter Amber. Individuals who would like donate money will receive a card and balloon to personalize in honor of a family member or loved one who is fighting or died from cancer. All donations will go to the American Cancer Society.

Donations will be taken on site and cards made at the event. Refreshments will be available.

4. The Wal-mart in Cedartown on Hwy. 27 will have face painting, an oreo stacking contest, give aways from Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mayfield, Ole, Nabisco, Frito-Lay, Hostess, AT&T, Verizon and straight talk on Friday, May 20, from 5 until 7 p.m. in honor of "A Taste of Wal-mart" and the grand opening of their phone center.

Special guests will include: Tony the Tiger, Maggie the Mayfield Cow and Chester the Cheetah.
