Washington, D.C. – Congressman Phil Gingrey, M.D. (GA-11) today issued the following statement in support of the U.S. House of Representatives passing a bill to repeal the $18 billion public health fund created in Obamacare:

“This slush fund allows Secretary Sebelius to spend the tax dollars of hard-working Americans on anything broadly described as benefiting prevention and public health,” said Rep. Gingrey, Co-Chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus. “In the midst of our struggle to rein in reckless spending and reduce our debt, to allow for an $18 billion slush fund is not only contradictory to our efforts, but outright insane. This is another example of why Americans are outraged over the continuous growth of the federal government and the back-room deals that created Obamacare. It is also exactly why rescinding this fund is a positive step towards less spending and more accountability in our government.”

H.R. 1217, a bill to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund, passed today by a vote of 236-183.
