ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — A man charged with killing one Athens police officer and wounding another has waived an initial court hearing.

The Athens-Clarke County magistrate court says 33-year-old Jamie Hood waived a hearing Monday morning. The court did not have the name of Hood's attorney.

Hood is charged with gunning down 34-year-old officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian last Tuesday and wounding officer Tony Howard.

Police staged a massive manhunt in the Athens area for several days before Hood turned himself in on Friday after holding some hostages at an apartment.
