DECATUR, Ga. -- A capital murder trial set to begin this week was postponed indefinitely after a DeKalb County judge disqualified the new head of Georgia's public defender system and the attorney he oversees because of a conflict.

DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gail Flake disqualified Travis Sakrison, who was appointed in January to head the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council, because he was involved in the investigation of the murder case while working as a county prosecutor.

The decision delays the trial of William Woodard, who is accused of the 2008 killings of two DeKalb County police officers. The trial was to begin Thursday.
