A portion of U.S. Highway 278 has been closed due to high water, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Closed is the portion of highway at the state line crossing from Georgia into Alabama.

Detour signs have been erected to direct traffic around the flooding.

Also closed is the portion of the Silver Comet Recreational trail that passes through downtown Rockmart. Euharlee Creek has risen over its banks and portions of the bike trail are under water.

Riders entering Rockmart will need to exit the trail at the intersection with Marble Street. The right fork exits onto the street and enters downtown, while the left fork follows the creek and enters the flooded area.

Riders can take Marble Street to Elm Street west out of town and rejoin the trail.
