A gas leak had the area around Hon temporarily shut down this morning.

The gas meter of the old Zartic building had already been removed, according to Cedartown Fire Chief Sammy Stephens, but the line remained in tact and was apparently broken while the construction crew worked to clean up the site.

The Atlanta Gas Company was called to the scene and turned off the gas, Stephens said.

Stephens further stated that due to the atmospheric conditions and the sun coming out all of the gas is expected to have dissipated.

The area has now been reopened for normal activities, according to Stephens.
