The Cedartown Recreation Department’s 10-and-under All-Star softball team has finished second in the state of Georgia.

Cedartown won their first game at the state tournament last Thursday night by forfeit over Carrollton.

Last Friday morning, the Cedartown youngsters took it to Walton County, winning 11-3. Cedartown, then 2-0 in the tournament, played later Friday at 2 p.m. against Wayne County and lost 13-7.

On Saturday, Cedartown defeated Colquitt County to advance to the championship game against Wayne County. Unfortunately, the young Lady Bulldogs were unable to pull off an upset and lost that game 5-2 to finish second in state.

Cedartown had qualified for the state tournament by winning the District 5 championship in Calhoun from June 23-25.

At District, the Cedartown team defeated Summerville 18-1 and Calhoun 6-4.

In their second contest against Calhoun, the youngsters from Cedartown fell 11-3. But that didn't stop them from coming back in the championship game and blowing out Calhoun 11-0 to win District.
