ATLANTA -- The White House has nominated a magistrate judge and a public defender for two of the four open judgeships on north Georgia's federal bench.

Federal public defender Natasha Perdew Silas and U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda T. Walker were tapped for the seats. The two must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate before they can take the bench.

Silas has worked as a federal public defender since 1994 and has represented some of the district's most high-profile defendants. Walker has been a federal magistrate since 2000.

The president has already nominated attorney Amy M. Totenberg and Clarke County Superior Court Judge Steve C. Jones to the other open spots.
