Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle
Speaking to reporters in his office on Tuesday, Cagle gave the recently released recommendations of the Tax Reform Council "mixed reviews" and said the Legislature will have "an enormous amount of debate and discussion" of the proposals during the session.
Cagle said that while lawmakers are required to consider the proposals, they are still early in the process and legislation or a vote are far down the road.
Among the tax panel's recommendations is reviving the 4 percent state sales tax on groceries - a move Cagle says he opposes because of its impact on poor Georgians and concerns over the tax's potential to generate enough revenue to justify the change.
