The U.S. Postal Service reports that nearly 100 percent of north Georgia residents have received mail delivery over the past several days, despite some of the most challenging weather conditions to impact the area in more than a decade.

“Thanks to the many hard working and dedicated employees – and with some cooperation from the weather -- we were able to make more than 99 percent of all deliveries in ZIP Codes 300, 301, 302, 303, 305 and 306, over the past several days,” says Atlanta District Manager Kate F. Wiley. “There are some isolated areas where ice has not melted sufficiently to make it safe for delivery employees, so we have not been able to reach everyone. However, those locations are very few, and that situation is improving each day.”

Wiley says to help get delivery operations back on track, Postal personnel are making deliveries throughout the metro area on Monday, January 17, which they would not normally do because of the observance of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

Wiley wants to remind Postal customers to clear the paths around their mailboxes of ice, snow or other obstacles that may interfere with their letter carrier’s line of travel, and to clear sidewalks and walkways leading to mailboxes where letter carriers have to dismount from their vehicles to make deliveries.

Post Offices remain closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Day holiday. All area Post Offices will re-open for business at their usual times on Tuesday, January 18.
