ATLANTA (AP) — More than 700 local school board members and superintendents from across Georgia are gathering in Atlanta this week for an annual meeting.

The joint meeting of the Georgia School Superintendents Association and Georgia School Boards Association starts Friday. Speakers include state schools Superintendent-elect John Barge and state Board of Education chairwoman Wanda Barrs.

The conference gives new school board members a chance to learn more about state regulations and laws for elected officials. The event also offers sessions that fulfill state-mandated training for school board members and superintendents.
