A man with ties to Rockmart is dead and his brother and best friend stand accused, according to officials from the Haralson County Sheriff’s Department.

Bryan Dunwoody, 22, 795 Agan Road, Bremen, died early Sunday morning when his brother placed a chokehold on him during a fight, according to Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon.

The brother, Ben Dunwoody, 25, of the same address, is charged with murder, according to Mixon. A friend, Samuel Adam Dean, 23, of 126 Paris Mountain Road faces a battery charge.

The Dunwoody brothers once lived in Rockmart and still have family here, according to local friends of the family.

Mixon said the three joined a group of friends for a night of drinking and ended up at the Dunwoody’s home on Agan Road, off Cashtown Road in Bremen, which turns into Vinson Mountain Road in Rockmart.

A fight broke out between Dean and Bryan Dunwoody, officials said. It was then that Ben Dunwoody used a fatal chokehold on his brother, according to officials.

I knew the boys growing up and their parents in the youth baseball league. The boys would come help work on the fields and where great players for Rockmart. There parents where hard working volunteers in the league for a number of years. This is a sad tragedy for this family and my players go out to them all

Ok first off..this isn't even what happened. bryan was a good good friend of mine since we were four..and I just thought that people in this town might have some respect for what his family and friends are going through rather than posting rediculous stories on what they THINK happend..and I really dont believe, Melody, that you spoke with the Sheriff of Haralson County Eddie Mixon...because Eddie is actually another good friend of our family and he has given me the actual story on what exactly happened so I would appreciate if this paper would have a little more respect for the friends and family of both Bryan and Ben and not post untrue things to make Ben or the family look bad. Thanks

The real PATHETIC thing about the corrected version of this story is that the facts are STILL very WRONG! Not to mention that a simple breaking up a fight turned into a "fatal chokehold" WOW our paper must be really hurting for a story!

Please get your facts straight Melody and do please use an editor next time.

So Brian Dunwoody, the boy that died, used a fatal chokehold on his brother Ben? And all at the same time Ben and Dean were fighting? WoW. I thought Brian was the one that died. You said that Brian died at the beginning and then made it out as if Brian but a fatal hold on his brother Ben at the end.

Did you mean to say Ben at the end of your article?

Even if you were correct with your facts, your choice of words are off and your writing is poor.

Somebody needs to rewrite that last paragraph. The names are all mixed up and all wrong.
