The following is a list of events going on in and around Polk County today, Aug. 24:

1. The Cedartown Wal-Mart will host senior day every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Seniors are invited to enjoy coffee, donuts and muffins as well as five games of bingo with prizes for the winners.

2. Enrollment for First Baptist Church’s music and missions programs will be next Wednesday, Aug. 24. The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a church-wide dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs and all the trimmings in the fellowship hall. The church invites everyone to plan to be a part of the food, fun, fellowship and getting your child registered for the music and missions programs. The Wednesday night programs are for ages 3 through grade 6. The programs begin at 6 p.m. and ends at 7:30p.m.

3. Collard Valley Baptist Church, 65 Collard Valley Church Loop., will hold vacation Bible school each Wednesday night in August from 6:30 until 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Big Apple/Big Bible Advienture.”

4. Oak Grove Baptist, Hwy. 27, is presenting a study of the history behind the Old Testament on Wednesday nights for the next serveral months. Each session beings at 7 p.m. in the church auditorium and is free to the public. The class includes topics such as the archaeology behind the Old Testament, the history of Israel, the nature of military technology and strategy from the tenth century BC.

5. Volunteers are needed to serve as a guardian angel and be voice in court for children. Today there are more than 200 kids in foster care in Polk and Haralson counties.
