There haven’t been any more arrests overnight from the sting targeting an alleged car theft ring in Polk County, according to records available at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

However, some of those arrested earlier are now bonding out of jail.

Marvin Cheatwood, for theft by receiving stolen property involving a motor vehicle has been released on a property bond, according to jail officials.

Richard Gerald Haney, 63, was released on a second property bond. He was picked up a second time Wednesday on a separate charge for operating a chop shop. He is also charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

Haney’s son, Richard Todd Haney, 40, was also released on a property bond. He is charged with possession of a vehicle with an altered identification number.

Officials said at least four others were arrested Wednesday who were not a part of the probe and didn’t have direct involvement in the suspected theft ring. Those arrests came during a police roadblock at one of the businesses, officials said.

Those arrests include:

Olen Jerry Sisson, 67, of 4301 Collard Valley Road, Cedartown, arrested on charges of theft by receiving stolen property. He was released on his own recognizance per Judge Whiteside.

Michael Justin Price, 30, of 152 Yale Road, Rome, was arrested on charges of possession of schedule III and schedule IV drugs and drugs not in their original container. He was released on a property bond.

Anthony Wayne Streetman, 45, of 65 Fowler Road, Rockmart, was arrested on charges of possession of a schedule III drug and drugs not in original container. He was released on a property bond.

John Wesly Frazier, 50, of 317 Woodward St., Rome, was arrested on charges of possession of a schedule III drug. He was released on a property bond.

Additionally, Michael Robinson, a former deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, was not processed through Polk County but was processed and is being held through another county.

Robinson was charged by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with federal weapons violations.

The same is true for Kenneth Gravett, a former deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, who now faces a charge of insurance fraud. Gravett, who was arrested previously on a similar charge, was arrested by an outside agency and processed through another county.

A familiar father and son were among those picked up on new warrants stemming from an multi-level probe into a car theft ring operating in Polk and Floyd Counties.

Richard Gerald Haney, 63, of 123 Frances Drive, Cedartown, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a charge of theft by receiving stolen property.

He was released on a property bond early Wednesday afternoon, only to be re-booked at the Polk County Jail by 4 p.m.

The new charge is operating a chop shop, according to Polk County Jail docket reports.

Haney's son, Richard Todd Haney, 40, of 25 Mountain View Drive, Cedartown, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and has not been completely through the booking process, according to jail officials. He faces charges of possession of a vehicle with an altered identification number.

Joey David Hughes, 35, of 36 Kimwood Drive, Cedartown, was arrested Tuesday in the case. He is charged with operating a chop shop and theft by receiving stolen property.

He has since been released on a property bond.

Meanwhile, three of those arrested Tuesday are being housed in jail outside the county. Mark Sparks, who was a Polk County police officer, is being housed elsewhere. He faces charges of violation of oath of office, obstruction, theft by receiving (motor vehicle).

John Summerville Sr., arrested on two counts of sale and distribution of a schedule 2 drug, operating a chop shop, theft by receiving (motor vehicle) and forgery in the second degree, is being housed in Floyd County, according to jail officials.

Bradley Miller, who faces two counts of theft by receiving stolen property (motor vehicle) and altering a vehicle identification number, is also being housed outside the county. Jail officials didn't have the locations of where Sparks and Miller were being held.

Meanwhile, Margie Fields, arrested Tuesday on charges of alterning a vehicle identification number and operating a chop shop, was released this afternoon.

For over a year, the NGCETF, which is led by the FBI, has been investigating a criminal enterprise based in Polk County involved in the trafficking of stolen vehicles and altering vehicle identification numbers in order to resell stolen vehicles for large profits.

The criminal enterprise has also been aided by current and former law enforcement officials who have been arrested as well. These former law enforcement officers have participated in the criminal activities and reportedly have provided sensitive law enforcement information to individuals involved in the criminal enterprise.

The investigation culminated on Oct. 6, with the execution of numerous search warrants and arrest warrants issued by the Polk County Superior Court and through the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia.

The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests and charges possible. Note: Additional photos will be posted as they become available.

ctsdwebeditor, why don't you JUST CRAP all over the right to fret speech? If there is no harm then it is covered by thede rights. You think you are the only one who can that can speak freely while you sit and "pick" what to say. You must be related the the AJC. Your job is to report the facts not pick what should be and shouldn't be told. You are a communist!!!

In answer to Who_Me?: Many of the charges made against individuals are city charges. These may include DUI, speeding, or numerous other charges that are made by the city (Aragon, Cedartown, or Rockmart) and, as such, these people are the responsibility of that particular city and NOT the responsibility of the Polk County Jail. However, city jails do not exist anymore. This came about with the advent of the Polk County 911 system. Since there is neither a dispatcher nor a jailer on duty at any of the city police departments inmates jailed on city charges must be housed in the county jail. (Each city, by agreement, pays the county a daily fee for each inmate housed for that city) Anyone who is housed for a city police department may make bond or be released for other reason (and there are many) that are legal and totally legitimate. This will reflect in the records of the county jail as "per request of Rockmart PD" or whichever jurisdiction is responsible. It is shown that way simply because the Polk County Sheriff's Office has to keep accurate records of bonds, etc. for Polk County only. Sorry to be so wordy with this but I felt a full explanation was in order. The news media gets all their information from public records and this is only what the records show.

Because people have to bond out through a local PD......

I have a question that isn't about this article but is related.

The printed version of the Rockmart Journal periodically publishes a list of people who have been arrested, what they were charged with, and if they're still in jail, out on bond, etc. At least one in every group has been "released at the request of ____ Police Dept". Does that mean somebody at that dept is calling in a favor? Or they changed their mind about whatever the person was arrested for? I just don't understand why a PD would request someone be released.

I hate to say it, but this is some exciting stuff. I hate to say it because it is my community but it is exciting, almost like a Monday Night at the Movies' mini series. Small town, corrupt police officers working with alleged home town criminals to carry out illegal activities. You really can't make this stuff up. I don't know what the end is going to be but I can hardly wait to see who else is involved.

Wagging tounges..... It is sad to see and hear all the comments about our local police forces. I think that our local law enforcement have done a wonderfull job in dealing with current problem.

In all the departments they have new chiefs/sheriff and they have started to cleanup and bring a new respect to law enforcement to polk county. Please remeber that it is only a few officers/deputy that have been charge. For the most part our men and women in law enforement in polk county are outstanding people .

The next time you meet and officer take time to thank him/her for doing a great job. Also remeber that to bring change to any organzation it takes time.Have faith in our law enforcement in time we will be proud of our county

Thanks
