11:50 a.m. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that James Thomas Sharp, 33, who lived at the rental home along with his wife and children, and Charles Franklin Wells Jr., 18, who lived a short distance away on Buchanan Highway, were killed int he explosion.

The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate a reported explosion and fire that killed two people south of Cedartown early Monday morning.

Click here to read the AJC story. Update: 9:50 a.m. Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey said the call came in at 12:18 a.m. Litesey said the bodies have been taken to a state crime lab for positive identification.

He said names may be released later today, but it could be tomorrow, depending on the crime lab's work schedule.

Previously reported:The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate a reported explosion and fire that killed two people south of Cedartown early Monday morning.

A spokesperson with Polk County Emergency Management said the fire occurred in the 1000 block of Youngs Farm Road.

The explosion reportedly took place in a workshop and garage behind a house.

Firefighter Alan Schuman, with Station 9, said the building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Volunteer firefighters from several stations responded and put out the fire. Firefighters then discovered two bodies inside.

The names of the fire victims have not been released.

Schuman said the explosion was so massive that it left a 100-foot-wide debris field.

Well, kinda sorry reporting when the AJC beat you to the punch with pictures & names of victims. On AJC with time stamp of 10:30 and the FW time stamp was @ 9:50. Great job FW!
