Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd said, as far as he can tell, no child was abducted.
“Nobody ever called. No one had any missing children,” Dodd said. “It’s just a mystery.”
Dodd said all children in area schools were in class on Thursday.
All available law enforcement searched the area of 200 Springdale Road late afternoon of Wednesday, April 25, in response to a possible child abduction, according to Dodd.
Dodd said calls came in to 911 at 5:15 p.m. with children stating they saw a white van abduct a young white female from a playground.
The driver was described as a black male.
Children reported the girl was screaming “help me” and trying to kick out a windshield.
Dodd said he was on his way home and in the area, so he was at the scene in less than a minute. He then called in every available officer from his office, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol and the City of Aragon.
“I had everybody I could get out here helping me,” he said.
Dodd said officers checked a 10-mile radius for the child, including dirt roads, a railroad trail road and all outlying areas. He said officers also knocked on doors in the Fairview area.
“We did come across some adults who saw a van and heard a girl screaming,” he said.
He said the case troubles him because, even later into the night, no one has reported a missing child. Dodd said knowing the child’s identity and having a picture could produce leads in finding her.
Dodd said anyone with any information should call 911.

“We can’t confirm it because no one has called in their child missing,” Dodd said. “We don’t have a victim at this point. I hope it’s not an abduction.”
