A live tree from Polk County will deck the halls and make the season jolly in the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, according to Georgia Forestry officials.

Officials will be on hand to dig up the tree from a field on Cherokee Road on Monday. The tree will then be transported to Atlanta to grace the halls of the Capitol throughout the Christmas season.

Denise Croker, Chief Ranger, Polk County Unit of the Georgia Forestry Commission, said the tree must be dug up instead of cut in order to comply with the Capitol’s building and fire codes.

This is the second Christmas tree coming from Polk County. Another tree from a residence on Rockmart Highway will provide Christmas cheer in the governor’s mansion. That tree will be delivered next Wednesday.
