Former Rockmart High School star Kaycee Popham has traveled all around the nation during the past four years while playing fast-pitch softball for Middle Tennessee State University.

Now, her talents are taking her to Sweden.

Popham — who earned Rome News-Tribune Player of the Year honors during her high school career at Rockmart — has traveled to Sweden recently as a member of a team that plays in the International Softball Federation.

Popham will be in Sweden for three months before returning to Middle Tennessee State University to finish school.

Popham recently completed her outstanding career at Middle Tennessee State University.

She led the team in hits, RBIs, total bases and runs scored this season, and ranks No. 2 on the school’s all-time list in homers.

Popham, a 5-foot-8 first baseman, started all 49 games for the Lady Blue Raiders this season.

On Feb. 26 against Virginia Tech, the Rockmart graduate tied a career-high with four RBIs against the Lady Hokies.

Popham scored a career-high three runs in a 2-for-3 effort on March 11 against Lipscomb. She tied that mark again on March 27 against Jacksonville State.

She had 15 multi-hit games this season, including five three-hit games.

Popham is a public relations major with a double minor in speech and theatre and marketing. She will graduate in December.
