The Rockmart girls youth softball league is going well so far, according to first-year president Neil Lewis.

“Everything is running smoothly,” Lewis said. “We are real positive about the direction everything is heading in. We are trying to take more of an instructional approach, making sure the girls learn the basics first and then progress from there.”

Lewis noted that the league has just under 200 girls playing this spring. There are teams in the 6-and-under division (four, five, and six-year-olds), eight-and-under division (seven-and-eight-year-olds), 10-and-under division (nine-and-10-year-olds), and the 14-and-under division (11, 12, 13, and 14-year-olds).

The local softball league plays games every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with an occasional Friday night contest.

Lewis said the league is slated to play until May 19, barring any rain delays or unsuspected setbacks.
