The money was in the original budget but was later dropped.
Rockmart Mayor Curtis Lewis, chairman, Sara Hightower Regional Library Board of Trustees, said if Rockmart receives the money, the local share would be about $775,750 with the total project cost estimated at $2,674,250.
Lewis was delighted to receive the “good news” and expressed thanks to each person who had de-voted time to get this goal accomplished.
“We (local and state offi-cials) have been working on this project for several years,” he said. “We have a lot of support to see our plans become a reality. If all goes well, we could re-ceive funds before the end of 2009.”
The new library, which would increase the size of the existing library from about 5,500 to about 17,000 square feet, will be located in the old RHS Vocational Building (Civic Complex).

Don't get me wrong; I'm thankful we're getting a new library!
