Burglaries reported

A woman living on Cobb Street reported her home ransacked and jewelry stolen last week, according to Cedartown Police Department reports.

The woman said she had been staying with a cousin because electricity was out in her home. She had returned home April 12 to pick up some dirty laundry and everything was fine, reports said.

Her cousin told her April 14 he saw her front door open as he passed by her house and shut it. When she returned home, she found her home ransacked.

Jewelry valued at $525 was taken, according to reports. Stolen items include a woman’s ring, a baby ring, a silver band with diamonds and a man’s silver wedding band and a man’s watch.

In a separate incident, an Elizabeth Street resident also reported missing jewelry, reports said.

That incident was reported April 6, according to reports.

Police have leads to possible suspects, reports said.

There was no estimated value of the missing jewelry in reports, but items included several gold necklaces, a diamond cross pendant, gold wedding band, gold rings and a silver necklace.

In a third unrelated incident, a resident on Atlanta Street reported jewelry stolen in a burglary reported April 2.

Police have a possible suspect, reports said.

The jewelry is valued at $2,200, reports said. Jewelry missing includes a gold ring, a mother’s ring, a class ring, an engagement ring, a chestnut gold ring, butterfly earrings, a gallon glass jar, reports said.

Woman hits pole with car

A Polk County woman faces traffic charges after she strikes a utility pole in Cedartown with her car.

According to Cedartown Police Department reports, officers were called April 11 to the South Main Street and Thompson Road area after a one-vehicle accident was reported.

Officers found driver Tiffany Spencer, of 500 Collard Valley Road, outside her car and began talking to her, reports said.

Spencer told police she was traveling north on South Main Street and fell asleep at the wheel. Spencer said she didn’t know she had hit the pole until someone woke her up and asked if she was injured.

Officers said they noticed her slurred speech. She told them she had taken medication a couple of hours before, reports said.

Spencer was taken to Polk Medical Center for treatment and then was taken home, reports said. Reports state she was charged with DUI, striking a fixed object and expired license.

Tag light out leads to arrest

Two men are arrested after a driver allegedly attempts to elude police trying to stop him on a burned out tag light bulb, according to Cedartown Police Department reports.

Reports state two officers were patrolling in the area of East Avenue and Philpot Street when they noticed a Chevrolet Cavalier traveling east on East Avenue without a tag light.

As the officers attempted to catch up with the driver, the driver turned left on North Broad Street from the westbound lane.

Officers said in reports they turned on sirens and a chase began with the Cavalier going north in a southbound lane at a high rate of speed.

The car eventually spun out and hit a ditch backwards, according to reports.

Reports said the driver, later identified as Kenyon Lee Adams, of 107 Grover St., Rome, left the car and ran into the woods.

Officers chased Adams with one returning to the car to see Adam’s passenger, Kendric Alexander Hoskins, of 430 Walter St., Rome, getting out of the car. Hoskins was secured and questioned. A police check showed an active warrant for child support.

Hoskins was then arrested.

Adams was caught later in the woods. He is charged with driving on a suspended license, improper turn, too fast for conditions, reckless driving, DUI-refusal, fleeing, failing to maintain lane, and resisting arrest.

He was also charged with driving without a tag light.

Both men were taken to the Polk County Jail, reports said.

Walmart customer wants an explanation

A female Walmart customer wants police to investigate why a store employee opened a locked dressing room door while she was changing.

According to Cedartown reports, the woman went into a dressing room to try on some shirts on April 6. She locked the door, but a woman unlocked it a few minutes later with a key.

The customer said she was entirely naked at the time. The woman closed the door and then knocked on a door next to hers and opened that door.

The woman complained to management, who said no one was assigned to that area. Management did locate the employee, and offered an apology but offered no explanation.

Police located the employee and noted she was not wearing any identification showing her to be a store employee.

No charges have been filed.

Man charged with DUI at fast-food restaurant

Cedartown police responded to calls April 6 about a man in gold Kia who keeps passing out at the wheel.

Officers arrived to find Elton Watson slumped at the wheel of his Kia in a parking spot at McDonald’s restaurant.

Police said he began to choke on a hamburger when they woke him.

He was taken to Polk Medical Center (PMC) and is charged with DUI-drugs, reports said.

Passer-by leads police to alleged thieves

Cedartown police reports state an officer was patrolling and saw a gray passenger car without any headlights. As the officer was turning to make a stop, a driver stopped to tell the officer they saw the car’s driver and two other men breaking into a car on Walnut Street.

Police stopped the car on Wissahickon Avenue and Chestnut Street. Officers said the two males seen earlier by police on the street and described by the witness were in the car with the driver.

Officers also said they saw a car stereo in the front floorboard, and a black bag of power tools, a black motor guide, a trolling motor and a black car battery in the back seat.

The driver, Erick Guzman, of 654 East Point Road, and passengers Danny Wheeler, of 310 East Gibson St., and Edward Preston, of 124 Potash Road, all of Cedartown, were all arrested and charged with theft by taking.

All were transported to the Polk County Jail.

Copper stolen

Officers were called out to Fair Ground Road April 3 for a theft report at the Shriner’s Rodeo building. More than $1,000 worth of copper was stolen from the building, reports said.

The theft occurred sometime in the past year.

Reports also state copper was reported stolen from the former Georgia State Patrol (GSP) post April 10.

Cedartown officers were called to the North Main Street building after the theft was discovered.

Reports state circuit boxes in the basement had been destroyed and thieves took an unknown amount of copper wiring.
