Rockmart's Christmas parade will not be held this afternoon, due to rainy weather expected to continue through or near the 6 p.m. scheduled start.

The parade will instead be held 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8.

Cedartown's Christmas parade remains scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at present. If rain continues into tomorrow morning, parade organizers will make a determination by noon Friday about whether to reschedule.

In case of a rain delay, Cedartown's parade will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.

I have noticed that a lot of LOCAL(polk, paulding and floyd) obits are mentioned in the ajc( www.ajc.com , click on "obituaries")There even is a search feature where you can type in a name and receive information .

Someone mentioned "obituaries" and I find that going to the funeral home website is the best way to keep current. Litesey and Gammage here in Cedartown have sites and will send you an e-mail when there is a death notice posted. I know that Freeman Harris and Alvis Miller in Rockmart both have sites but I don't know if they will e-mail you.

The "other" Rockmart Journal site was free also. I wonder who and why the decision was made to "consolidate" the two. Yes, the Rockmart parade story was reported pretty quickly today, but usually anything about the other side of the county is only reported after several complaints on this site. Oh, and BTW, I do purchase the Rockmart Journal paper edition, but if you're gonna do a website, you should at least keep it current.

I agree with what Demodog said. Let it rain on the parade, and you'd never stop hearing complaints. You can't make 100 percent of the people 100 percent happy 100 percent of the time.

The complaints about the Web site are unfounded too, in my opinion. Had it not been for this site, a lot of people would not have known about the postponement.

It never ceases to amaze me that people complain about a FREE news site. Not all the stories on here may be their cup of tea, but it's FREE for Pete's sake. You don't even have to put forth any effort. Just click and it's there. The obituaries in the paper are always current (as best they can be with a weekly and bi-weekly paper). Why not subscribe or buy one from the store?

It's 3:10 and it's raining in Cedartown. Radar shows another band of rain over about Piedmont, AL. Can you imagine the complaints if the kids in the parade and those little ones watching the parade were in a downpour or even a sprinkle or just a mist or how about those that their parents would keep away because of precipitation. The prediction of the timing of weather conditions is a bit iffy at best. Ever notice when the TV weather person gives a bit of a tease about the weather and then says, "Details in a couple of minutes" and you know it'll be at least 15. They can't even predict, with certainty when they'll tell you about the weather.

Complain about the weather, the prediction or the postponement of the parade but applaud the timely reporting by The Fishwrap.

1) I, too, think it is a shame that they postponed the parade so early in the afternoon when according to the weather reports it is supposedly going to be dry at parade time. We will also have to miss the parade in favor of the concert. Hard to believe that the hometown will not have a band marching. Besides, it's so small to begin with that it will really be noticed. Seems someone missed the boat on the rescheduled date. Work together people!

2) And another thing, OMG, can we please have our Rockmart Journal site back. The obits have not been updated in several weeks and just now listing the first couple of weeks in November! Jeez!

I did call the city and they told me they were not aware of the concert until they called the school and told them of the delay.

This is really disturbing that a small town such as this really has bad scheduling! As a former member of the RHS band I have seen how a child's face lights up when a child sees the band and screams the name of the instrument that they know. It is sad that the band (both middle and high) will not be in the parade. And know I have to make the choice whether to attend The Band concert or attend the parade, both very big traditions in this pokey town.
