Polk County residents are encouraged to attend and support the fundraising events going on around your community. Some of these events are listed, with proceeds going to Polk County Relay For Life.
Polk Medical Center/EMS Team will host a Yard Sale on Saturday, April 2 starting at 7:30 a.m. in the gravel parking lot beside the hospital.
Rockmart First Baptist Church Team will host an “Isaiah 53:5K” Run on April 9 which will start at First Baptist Church, East Elm Street 7 a.m., onto Silver Comet Trail and back to the church. 1 Mile Fun Run for kids. Cost: $25 for 5K and $15 for 1 Mile Fun Run, includes tee shirt. Register at www.isaiah53-5k.webstarts.com .
Polk Medical Center/EMS Team will host a “Womanless” Beauty Pageant on Saturday, April 9th at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, Hwy 278, Cedartown. Happy Hour 6PM-7PM with ½ price drinks. Contestants please sign up by April 6th at PMC ER 770-749-8582. Awards and prizes for all contestants. They will also be selling chicken dinner plates for $7, available to go.
Wimberly Hill Baptist Church Team will host a Baked Potato Dinner after church services on Sunday, April 10th.
Body Vision Team will host a “Ride For A Cure” motorcycle ride on Saturday, April 16th. Registration from 9 – 10 a.m. with bikes leaving Body Vision at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call Body Vision at 770-684-1476.
Victory Baptist Church Team will be hosting an Outdoor Bazaar on Saturday, April 23. Plenty of spaces available for rent, cost $25. Bring your crafts, food, yard sale or specialty items to sell. For more information and to reserve your spot, contact Davina Williams, 770-851-8844.
Polk Medical Center/EMS Team will host a “Little Miss and Little Mister Relay” Pageant on Saturday, April 30, 5 p.m. Youngs Grove Baptist Church, for ages 1 day through 18 years old. $20 entry fee + $10 for each additional child in family. No formal attire. Sunday attire. Peoples’ Choice award will be given to the child who collects the most donation amount. Registration forms available at PMC front desk. Bring registration form and fee to hospital or fax to 770-749-8597 by April 18th.
Polk Medical Center/EMS Team will also have a booth at the Cedar Valley Arts Festival, Peeks Park, April 30 – May 1, hair spray painting for kids, hair bows, baked goods, and raffle tickets for various items.
Westside School Team has an ongoing fundraiser called “Links for a Cure”. Construction paper loops in colors representing different forms of cancer are sold for 25 cents and added to a chain that is beginning to cover the school.
Cedartown Middle School Team sold Candy Grams on Valentine’s Day, and has plans for other fundraisers at school.
Rockmart Church of Christ Team is selling “Record A Cure” tee shirts for $10. each. These feature a 50’s theme. Call Terry singleton at 678-883-4735.

The Polk County Relay For Life Planning Committee and Teams will “Paint Polk Purple” during the week of April 18-22, and will encourage every Polk County resident to wear purple on Wednesday, April 20. This event is about a community taking up a fight, and the public is invited to attend. Any and all cancer Survivors are especially invited to join together as they lead off the first lap of the Relay at 7 p.m. Before the event officially begins, cancer Survivors are invited to attend a Celebration Dinner at 5 p.m. at the Rockmart First Baptist Church. After the dinner, Survivors will form a Celebration Parade and travel to the Sports Complex in time for the first lap at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this community fight against cancer, which begins at 7 p.m. and will go on all night until 8 p.m. Saturday morning.
