A Polk County man arrested on family violence charges now faces additional charges after he allegedly attempted an escape.

Kevin Scott Hampton, 33, of Prior Station Road, Cedartown, is in the Polk County Jail on charges of first-degree cruelty to children, simple battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA), third-degree cruelty to children, felony escape and obstruction.

According to Polk County Police Department (PCPD) officials, Hampton was handcuffed and was in the process of being transported in a county patrol car to the jail Saturday, Jan. 19, when he escaped from the car around 4 p.m. in the area of the U.S. 27 bypass and East Point Road.

Hampton told the transporting officer that he felt sick and asked if the officer would roll down a window, according to PCPD Chief Kenny Dodd.

The officer rolled a back seat window about a quarter of the way down.

Then Hampton told the officer he was going to vomit, so the officer pulled the car over. The officer had planned on getting out of the car and opening a rear door for Hampton so he could vomit outside the car, Dodd said.

Hampton, who had managed to work his way out of the handcuffs, reached out the window, opened the rear door and fled on foot, according to Dodd.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies and Cedartown Police Department (CPD) were called to assist.

The Cedartown K-9 unit found Hampton 300 feet in nearby woods within a half-hour of his escape.

To cgs: You should read the paper edition of the Cedartown Standard and look for the article about using Gods name. Of course, you may be an atheist and do not believe in God so the information in the article would not apply.
