Polk Police Chief Billy Wills said Friday that investigators are optimistic in following up new leads in the case of Gregory Wayne York, who has been reported missing since May 1992.
Law officers from Georgia and Alabama were digging last week in the Borden Springs area of Alabama, just over the state line, acting on tips recently received to investigators.
Chief Wills could not comment on what if anything investigators had uncovered in the area, but said crews were scheduled to recover the ground Friday.
“We’re doing everything we can to bring this to an end,” Wills said. “We want to put some pressure on some things and get results.
“The tips gained by our detectives I felt was pertinent enough to look into this. It’s an ongoing investigation and I really can’t say more at this point.”
Joining Polk County in the investigation are the Polk Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Cleburne County Alabama Sheriff’s Office.

Greg York was reported missing by his father, Harvey York, on May 30, 1992 after he had not seen his son for two days.
Harvey York told authorities that he felt his son was the victim of foul play, which Polk investigators also indicated based on numerous tips received nearly a decade ago.
Several search parties were issued in June 1992, under the direction of Harvey York in the Culp’s Lake area of Esom Hill.
Investigators found an orange Volkswagen Beetle that Greg York was last seen driving, but would not reveal where exactly it was recovered.
Greg York was 31 at the time of his disappearance. He lived in the Johnson Lake Road neighborhood on the southwest side of Polk County.
