No snow day today; temps should rise to around 50 degrees

Sorry kids -- but no snow day today.

The Polk School District made the call early this morning that roads were safe enough to travel and school would be in session at the usual time.

Polk County saw a pretty dusting of snow last night that started falling around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

By 10 p.m. last night, the temp had actually risen somewhat -- to around 37 degrees -- and most of the snowfall melted.

Drivers are still urged to use a little extra caution when driving.

A Winter Weather Adivisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Drivers are urged to use caution.

Today's forecast from the National Weather Service calls for sunny skies with a high near 49. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.
