Residents of Cedartown and the surrounding area will be able to hear the sweet vocal harmonies and smooth picking of bluegrass music this Saturday at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center.

The show, which is called the first annual Cedartown Bluegrass Jam Fundraiser, will begin at 1 p.m. and is described as an all-day event. The lineup will include many big acts in the world of bluegrass, including Bent Creek, Crossties, Homegrown and Russell Moore with IIIrd Tyme Out. The headliner for the concert will be the legendary Ricky Skaggs.

Tickets are $25 for an all-day pass, with children 12 and under getting in for $10. All proceeds will benefit the Cedartown Performing Arts Center.

Russell Moore, lead singer and guitarist performing with the group IIIrd Tyme Out, took time on Tuesday to speak with The Cedartown Standard in a phone interview.

Moore said the group has been together since 1991, but that the musicians have been performing music for “a whole lot longer than that.” He stated he picked up a guitar at the age of 10 or 11 and began to learn a few chords.

The music Moore has always been drawn to is bluegrass, although he said that IIIrd Tyme Out also incorporates traditional country and gospel music.

“But we play these other styles of music under the umbrella of bluegrass,” Moore said.

The group previously performed in Cedartown about three years ago at the Performing Arts Center.

“That is a beautiful place, and we are looking forward to getting back there on Saturday,” he said.

Moore said that people young and old will get something out of a concert that features many of the top touring bluegrass groups.

“I was looking over the talent line-up, and any time you see Ricky Skaggs you have to get pretty excited. He performs top-notch music wherever he goes,” Moore said.

Moore added that the concert will be family oriented music that everyone can enjoy.

“There will be great picking and great harmony vocals. All of these acts are going to run the gamut of vocal structure. I think it will be a great day for young and old.”
