COLUMBUS, GA. — Authorities say a mother and her 11-month-old son drowned in the Chattahoochee River in Columbus.

Police say a 3-year-old boy was also taken to a hospital after the Sunday afternoon drownings.

Columbus Police Lt. Lynn Joiner tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that the family was fishing on the bank at Rigdon Park and the 3-year-old went into the water.

Police say the mother, holding her baby, went in to get him and all three went under the water.

Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower says 30-year-old Chrystal Brown was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m. Her son Mister Brown was pronounced dead at 4:26 p.m. at The Medical Center.

Police say the 3-year-old went in a shallow area, but there was a drop-off where water became as deep as 15 feet.
