Tom Reilly, facilities director, Polk School District, said the building includes $15,000 square feet of space and more than three acres of land.
NWGHA is also negotiating for the purchase of the old Elm Street school facility at a cost of $125,000.
Reilly said the building has more than 60,000 square feet of space and 11 acres of land.
No no official announcement regarding use of the buildings. However, Executive Director Sandra Hudson said plans are to meet with Rockmart officials to gather ideas and information about best use of the facilities.
She said a market study would be completed before a final decision is made. According to Hudson, the buildings could be used as office space, senior housing or any project that would benefit Rockmart residents.
Meanwhile, the Authority is moving forward with plans to erect a 10,500 square foot multi-purpose building for an after school tutorial and adult education program. The structure will be erected on 2.4 acres at 1030 North Piedmont Avenue in Rockmart.
This project has an estimated cost of more than $1.6 million. It should go to bid by January 30 with construction expected to begin
by April 1. Completion is expected by November.
“We are excited to be in Rockmart,” said Hudson “This facility will provide additional educational opportunities in the community.”
The building will also house Rockmart’s House of the Children Academy. It will utilize the Montessori philosophy under the supervision of Ms. Shemi Kumar, owner of the Montessori School of Rome.
It will serve children ages 6 weeks to 4 years. Included will be the infant, toddler and primary programs.
The Academy is available for public housing children and other youngsters in Rockmart.
