City authorities have already blocked one road in Cedartown and another in Rockmart due to today's heavy rain.

City officials closed South Furnance Street, Cedartown, at its intersection with Henderson Street, due to water spilling over from draining ditches and covering the road. The closure is located in a curve of Furnance Street in the area of Grace Covenant Church.

The closure did not extend to block anyone's access to their residence.

Rockmart's Old Cartersville Road, near Fairview Baptist Church, is also closed until further notice.

Joe Watson, Superintendent of the City of Cedartown Street Department, said that there is a lot of water in area creeks, and his department is monitoring the situation to ensure that the water does not rise enough to affect travel.

"We are driving around town watching every road to see if the water raises above the pavement. If that happens, it becomes unsafe for drivers," Watson said.

Check back with The Fish Wrap throughout the day for any other road closings.
