ATLANTA (AP) — Gov. Sonny Perdue has ordered the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist a probe into possible cheating on standardized tests at schools in Atlanta and Dougherty County.

In an executive order, the governor told the agency to assist in a special investigation now led by former state Attorney General Mike Bowers and ex-DeKalb County District Attorney Bob Wilson.

Perdue earlier said he was unhappy with what he called inadequate probes conducted by the Atlanta and Dougherty County school systems. The inquiries began after a statewide review showed an unusually high number of erasures on first- through eighth-grade standardized tests taken in spring 2009.

GBI spokesman John Bankhead did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

If you want to investigate a department, how about starting with the water department? Now those thieves are stealing our money every day of the week.
