Department of Corrections spokeswoman spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan says about 10 inmates have been refusing food at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
Supporters of the inmates demonstrated outside the department's Forsyth headquarters this week. They are calling on Commissioner Brian Owens to consider the inmates' demands.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the demands include adequate medical care, visitation issues, phone calls, exercise, and access to the commissary.
