GSP holds final flag lowering ceremony at Polk County building

Georgia State Patrol troopers participate in a flag lowering ceremony at the GSP Post 29, located at 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Road in Cedartown, held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29.

The ceremony symbolized the closing of Post 29. The GSP will still be servicing Polk and Haralson county, but troopers will be dispatched out of Post 38, which is located in Rome.

GSP officials had earlier stated they would vacate the Cedartown office in response to a Polk County Commission plan to relocate the Polk County Police Department to that facility.

If Polk County had commissioners who were good at planning, GSP Post 29 would still be based in Cedartown. Skills in planning would have anticipated this action. Skills in problem-solving would have prevented this action.

I was so sad to hear about the closing of Post 29. Post 29 has had a special place in my heart for years. In 1966 my father moved our family to Cedartown when he received a transfer. Over the years my father worked hard and provided for our family. I was always so proud when I saw my father working traffic after the football games on Friday nights. He looked so handsome in his uniform! I was also proud when I was told about him saving a child who had stopped breathing, or when he caught a bad guy. He was my hero. Post 29 has had alot of heroes over the years, and there are still heroes who work there who risk their lives daily. Thank you Post 29 for all that you have done for Polk County. We will miss you so much. May God bless you always.

Go ride around the streets and neighbor(hoods) of south atlanta, where I grew up in the 50s and 60s, for a day and you will feel a lot better about your little community. Polk County even with its corruption (which is everywhere worldwide) is heaven in this hell we call earth.

Polk co. goverment is great.They are running everybody out of the co.I am afraid the next bunch is going to be as bad.
