Some new names and old rivals appear to be on the docket for area schools over the next four years.
Rockmart's region, Region 7-AA, has gotten larger, growing from 12 to 15 schools.
Sub-region "A" will include Rockmart, Adairsville, Armuchee, Coosa, Model, Pepperell and River Ridge, while sub-region "B" will include Calhoun, Chattooga, the new school Coahulla Creek in Whitfield County, Dade County, Gordon Central, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, North Murray and Sonoraville.
Cedartown will remain in Region 6-AAA, but it will have a totally new look. Gone are Cartersville, Lakeview Fort-Oglethorpe, LaFayette, Ridgeland, Ringgold, Heritage-Catoosa and Southeast Whitfield. Joining the region will be Columbus, LaGrange, Shaw, Troup and a new school called New Manchester.
Returning to Cedartown's region will be Carrollton, Central-Carroll and Haralson County.
Schools may appeal to the GHSA for a lateral transfer into another region in the same classification. Those appeals will be heard by the GHSA on Dec. 16.
After the appeals process is completed, the GHSA Reclassification Committee will send the new regions to the full Executive Committee on Jan. 12, 2010 for final approval.
