GDOL will help Hays State Prison recruit correctional officers

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will help Hays State Prison fill about 60 jobs for correctional officers at the prison in Chattooga County.

The recruitment will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, from 4-6 p.m. at the prison’s training building, located at 777 Underwood St., across the street from the Wal-Mart store, in Trion.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED). Experience as a correctional officer is not necessary.

Applicants are encouraged to bring to the recruitment a driver’s license, U.S. Social Security Card, birth certificate, Department of Defense (DD 214 member 4 Form), Selective Service Card, and their high school diploma or GED, along with COMPASS or ASSET test scores.

The starting salary for correctional officers at the prison is $25,538, plus as much as 10 percent more for those with prior military service.
