A flood watch for possible flash flooding is in effect until midnight tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The watch includes Floyd, Polk, Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Gordon, Paulding, Pickens and Walker counties.

A strong upper level disturbance will move across Alabama and into Georgia today, creating widespread rain and thunderstorms.

Some storms may produce heavy rain with rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches in a short amount of time.

A flood watch for possible flash flooding means conditions are favorable for locally heavy rain across the watch area, which may lead to rapid rises along smaller streams and creeks.
