U.S. authorities arrested Alexander Fishenko, owner of Arc Electronics Inc., and seven others earlier this week.
Hearings began Friday in federal court in Houston to determine if bail will be granted.
Fishenko's hearing was postponed until next week, but a hearing for one of his employees was held Friday.
Authorities say Alexander Posobilov should be held without bond.
FBI agent Crosby Houpt testified about email exchanges and phone conversations Posobilov had in which he coached employees on how to hide that cutting-edge microelectronics the company was sending to Russia were ending up with military and intelligence agencies.
Posobilov's detention hearing was to continue Friday afternoon.
