Does Immigration Cost Jobs?

Do immigrants take American jobs? It’s a common refrain among those who want to tighten limits on legal immigration and deny a "path to citizenship" — which they call "amnesty" — to the millions of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. There’s even a new Reclaim American Jobs Caucus in the House, with at least 41 members.

But most economists and other experts say there’s little to support the claim. Study after study has shown that immigrants grow the economy, expanding demand for goods and services that the foreign-born workers and their families consume, and thereby creating jobs. There is even broad agreement among economists that while immigrants may push down wages for some, the overall effect is to increase average wages for American-born workers.

I have never commented here before for fear of being attacked - but to the person who mentioned renting to illegals. I probably rent to some illegals. I definitely rent to spanish folks. While I do not support illegals or illegals taking american jobs, if I evicted all renters who could not provide proper documentation I would go bankrupt. So while I don't really want to support this group until I have americans with jobs and paychecks I really don't have a choice. And while a few of my properties are in questionable neighborhoods they are well maintained and rented at a reasonable price. There is almost no income in this town. I either have hispanics with jobs or people on disablitily. The rest generally get evicted for non payment.

Everyone in America originally came here from other lands---The melting pot/Land of Milk and Honey---My ancestors have been traced back to William Penn (Mayflower)--Where did he get his papers to be here? I also have mixture of Irish, German, Dutch, American Indian. Poor people do not have the resources to apply for the proper paperwork. Most just want a chance for a better life ---let them have it. They aren't running planes into the towers. They are just hard working people looking for a better life.

Like a lot of people it seem's that I only post when I want to vent and gripe. I know that I'am guilty of this so I want to post a positive. I want to say THANK YOU !! to all the Veteran's out there.. With Memorial Day coming up I think of all the Vet's that have made the ultimate sacrifice and hope they are at peace and want to remember their families as well. To all that have and are serving THANK YOU and may GOD keep and bless you !!!

Demodog, I have checked with most people that I deal or associate with. We mostly do our own yard-work and can't afford any rental property. I do not promote or encourage supporting illegal's in any way. Thank's for the idea's Demodog I'll double check to make sure that I don't associate with anyone that work's , rent's to or buy's from illegal's. If you are here legally then stay if not then you need to be deported.

I think immigrants take jobs away from americans. Has anyone noticed how hard it is to find a job lately. I believe it is because they are taken by immigrants. It is nearly impossible to find any good paying job or job in general. I don't think it is fair to the people who have lived here all their life. We (americans) have lived here all our life and are in need of some help. Who is going to help us? We also need some health care help as well.

Tell all your anti-illegals feelings to the people who hire them to do their yardwork and who rent to them. Check the tax records and see who owns the rental properties that are occupied by illegals and see if you associate with them and work with them and shop with them.

are you kidding me? illegals are not only costing jobs, but they are costing millions in "legal" taxpayer funded healthcare and education, incarceration fees, unpaid federal, state and property taxes. We the People have got to stop this travesty. All entitlement programs should be cut off until this situation is under control. Secure the borders. Deport ALL illegals. No amnesty. Repeal the birthright citizenship law.

I don't know who these economist's and " other expert's " are but they don't know diddly. These so called expert's need to join the real world. I watched my old industry die for me and most people I knew in the business. We could not compete against companies that hired illegal's. They would hire illegal's cheaper than I could do the work then take back a hefty percentage from them in worker's comp. that was probaly never paid. We paid a heavy premium for our insurance and we paid our taxes , we also paid a decent wage. Most of the guy's that worked with us owned home's ( paid property taxes .)All that I knew filed with the IRS ( paid fed. taxes .) and filed with the state ( paid state taxes. ) Every stinking one of us bought good's and used service's ( more taxes ) plus we kept all our money in the U.S.A. So now I want these economist's and " other expert's " to show me how putting good men out of a life-long job is good for the economy !!! They need to get real I guess being an economist or "other expert " come's with a lot of built in job security . And by the way we did'nt just give up and give in we went down fighting for our work it just got to the point we could no longer compete with the illegal's and the federal gov. The fed's seemed to allow and encourage this.

Where were my right's and the right's of all the other's like me ??
